8 Student Life

T he week leading up to the pep assembly was packed with spirit.

Monday was class t-shirt day; Tuesday, Pajama Pant Day;
Wednesday, Clash/Crazy Hair day; Thursday, 80s day; Friday of course
was blue and white day. At the homecoming assembly, the sophomores
won the “chug a mountain dew” contest, while the juniors defeated in the
rest of the competitions. Winning the banner contest, tug-of-war, pie eating
contest, and the victory cheer led the juniors to win the spirit cup.

Yearbook

A yearbook is one of the most
important things in a school. It is full of
memories of past experiences that you
can look back on in the years to come.
The yearbook staff works really hard to
make sure everything comes together.

Taking the role of editor this year
was Lyndsey Tibbie. She worked hard to
keep the class on task to assure you the
best yearbook ever. With the staffs hard
work and dedication, we hope you enjoy
the yearbook this year.

hometown is Osaka, Japan. I
currently live with Joseph and Nancy
Trexler in Ruby. My hobbies include
listening to music, playing
volleyball and singing. I also like
to play the guitar and hang out with
my friends.

There are many differences
between America and Japan. For
instance America seems to be so much
cheaper than in Japan. The food also
comes in many different styles.

School life, culture, and language
are also very different than across
seas .

ANew Beginning

Here we are, the end at last. 1

® 9 J know everyone always says that

President this isn't really the end, that it is

Tom Marcetti i r • • c i •

the beginning of something new
i and better. And while it may be a

beginning, we must not forget it's
also the end of some of the greatest
: times in our lives. All of us will

j remember these days and look back

upon them. Perhaps not always
with thoughts of the good times,
but it's just as much the bad times
in our lives that have made us who
we are. And even though we will
continue to grow and be molded by
future experiences and people, it
has been these past few years that
have ultimately set the base of who
we will become.

path followed precisely,
leads precisely nowhere. And yet
every journey begins with a single
step. This is that step ; and it is
the steps that follow that will
define each of our journeys
through life. Some of us are meant
for greatness/ and some aren't.
But the only thing that matters is
that we live our lives to the fullest
and that we love who we are and
what we do.

Sergeant of Arms

I'd wish you all lucky but luck
alone won't be enough. Don't be
afraid to be differenty to be
yourselfy to do it your way, and
never let go of your dreams.

Sincerely Yours,
Taryne Kavanagh

T he Class of 2004 is full of amazing talent. In the
past three years, we have shown our flare in
athletics, our gift in the arts, our aptitude in academics,
and our steadfast school spirit! With all of these
strengths, our individual
promise for the future
has a plethora of
possibilities. We have
made so many memories
together, but sadly
making them will too
soon come to an end.

Thus, let’s make the
remaining moments
together the best they
can possibly be. . .so when
we look at our years
together at Yale High
School we will have
many treasured
memories.

LOOK AT THEM 00!!!

T he Yale High School staff is
working hard to get their work
done. Look at these fine teachers
as they smile for the camera.
They all deserve so much credit
for the time and effort they put
into making our years here at
Yale worth it.

Mr. Nicholl is the heart of our school.
Being our principal he must be able to
relate to the student. He is a natural at
making someone smile when their day
has gone bad. He is an exceptional role
model for Yale High School.

Mrs. Julie Cowhy takes time out to assist a student.

Mrs. Weaver, a new
teacher to our staff this
year, does a wonderful
job with the students.
Keep up the good work!!!

Mr. French teaches his students the importance of
math. His technique is unlike any other. He does an
awesome job.

COACHES

The 2002 varsity football season was filled
with tough competition and exciting games.
A third straight playoff appearance was
preceded by victories over a class A team
Flint Kersley and Capac. A total team effort
of hard work, determination, and heart,
enabled these excellent athletes to have a
successful year.

Coach Smeznik

“Cross Country is a combination of physical stamina and mental
thoughness. It is not a spectator sport in the typical sense. Many
people misunderstand why anyone would abuse their body so much
for so little glory. Runners know that the satisfaction they feel comes
largely from within and is beyond explanation. To really understand
Cross Country you have to experience it for yourself."

Coach French

“It is my privilege and
pleasure to play a part in
the development of these
fine young men.”

Coach Barns

“The effort it takes to achieve
something significant is
difficult to understand unless
you were part of the adventure.
The track teams weren’t just
champions at the end of the
season, they were
champions from the first day
of practice.”

Coach Dams

“The 2002 JV Baseball team
was a crew of talented
players. Without the use of
full practice facilities we
pulled out an outstanding
year, winning 1 5 games.”

Coach Lewis

“The 2002 - 2003 Bulldog
Wrestling team had a lot of
experience, twelve starters
returned. The team had high
expectations and goals. With
hard work and dedication, they
worked toward those goals and
a successful season.”

Coach Majcher

T his year’s squad was very
determined and had high
spirits. The Varsity and J.V.

strongly with .500 record. A new precedent was set this year for

T he 2002 Equestrian Team

accomplished another outstanding
year. Despite a slow start, the team was
able to capture their District title and
ride on to the State Championships for
their third year in a row. Against some
of the toughest competition that most of
the members had ever seen, they were
able to pull themselves together and
achieve more than they thought possible.
They placed 10th in the State Finals
which were held in Detroit. It was a
great honor and achievement that they
were all very proud of.

Jury Room

By C. B. Gilford

The fate of Julie Fletcher rests in the hands of
twelve jurors. Accused of murdering her uncle in
cold blood, her only hope lies in the single jury
member who voted not guilty. Alone in her beliefs, a
student actress must attempt to prove Julie’s
innocence to her fellow jurors. By acting out some
of the testimony, she hopes to convince the others to
save Julie Fletcher. Just convincing the others to go
along with her idea is tough enough, but does she
have what it takes to get to the real truth behind
the murder of Julie’s uncle?

The Three- Act play consisting of 12 characters is
under the direction of Mr. Jackson.

It seems like only yesterday my daughter went to sleep ~ her dolls to heep her company,

her 6 lancets at her feet.

JAnd as I would looh^in on her while walking 6y her room, she seems to sleep angelically

6eneath the shining moon.

( But now that little girl is gone and sleeping in her place is such a lovely, young Cady so

full of charm and grace.

Sometimes I wonder where she went, my little girl of three, until I see those

shining eyes and hriow she’s still with me.

Congratulations Crystal!!!

We are so proud of you.

TERRORISM

Over the course of the year, the world's attention focused on a
chain of tumultuous terrorist events. In Afghanistan, the Taliban
regime fell from power as U.S. troops crippled the al-Qaeda network
and cleared caves in search of Osama bin Laden. World-wide,
civilians and military personnel fell victim to terrorist bombs and
acts of hatred. On the home front, "bioterrorism" became a
common term after it was revealed that Iraqi leader Saddam
Hussein was producing biological weapons. Hussein's defiance of
United Nation's imposed sanctions prompted the United States to

seek world support of military action against
Iraq. Members of the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization wrestled over conflicting opinions
on the issue, while North Korean leader Kim
Jong II threatened to deploy nuclear weapons if
Iraq was attacked. As tensions rose among
political leaders, the world watched and waited
to see what the next chapter in "The War on
Terrorism" would bring.
